Meet Your Experience Leaders: Part 2

IMG_3555.JPG

Hi everyone! My name is Brian Florenzo, and I am a sophomore majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology and Spanish here at UMD. I’m from Columbia in Howard County, Maryland, and I am really excited to be one of your experience leaders to Columbia, SC to get a deeper understanding of childhood obesity, volunteer with community partners, and to  get to know all of you. I am passionate about medicine, demographics, traveling, and learning languages. Eventually, I want to go to medical school and work with immigrant populations and until then, I hope to make the most of my time here at UMD!

Hi, I’m Sydney Shade! I’m a senior Psychology major here at UMD on a pre-med track. I’m originally from Etters, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 minutes away from Hersheypark. (Fun Fact: I am a competitive powerlifter and can bench-press over 200 pounds!) I’m so happy to have the opportunity to be one of the co-leaders for the Columbia, SC experience. During my time at Maryland, I have pursued an interest in eliminating health disparities, as well as promoting overall wellness. I’m excited to travel to South Carolina in order to learn more about childhood healthcare and serve the local community, all while making some new friends! I’m hoping our group can grow to become more active members of our own communities. I love the way AB allows participants to become vulnerable, find a passion in service-learning, and have fun doing it.
